Lifeslurper resides in a big brown land called Auuustralia. Her early years remain a mystery cloaked in a veil of depression.

Age 42 Lifeslurper meets the vague but gorgeous Wobbles. “What took him so long to arrive?” She asks.

They make their way together in the world just fine, but are not fine to make a baby – not without some outside help. Enter ART and 2008 the year of 4 IVF cycles & one lousy big fat negative.

Lifeslurper is now 47 years old! Time for a baby is running out fast, so too is her sanity. Now it's 2011 - Lifeslurper & Wobbles have moved into top baby making gear. Donor Egg Cycles are the way to go, after a long pause to take stock after a glorious donor egg BFP & the subsequent loss. This year saw 2 cancelled FET cycles, & and menopause causing delays.

Where to from here? After 10 cycles Lifeslurper & Wobbles now await their WobblyBub who is due in May 2012 - actually make that...um....*sigh*...what's the point?

Gary Numan, your music IS electric!

One of the great things about driving out on the open road is being able to listen to great music. Long haul trips seem swifter when accompanied by the correct choice of music. Some selections of music take on a whole new meaning out on the highways and country back roads of this great big land. Long term favourite travel music is usually the Wurlitzer driven energy of The Charlatans, or the swirling rhythms of some great Celtic soul.

Recently, Wobbles slipped in a surprise selection; the ‘greatest’ hits of late 70s electronic cum New Wave music artist Gary Numan. Could he possibly have recorded enough material to release a greatest hits CD? I was having trouble remembering more than three hits from him or his early band, The Tubeway Army. I was certain that Wobbles would be the only person to have bought this compilation. The album was serving as our driving music on a short highway journey. Around the sixth track I was still to notice any discernable variation in the music or vocals. My head was thumping. This was not what I viewed as travelling music. I did the unthinkable and stopped a CD halfway, and made a silent vow to find out whatever happened to Gary Numan.

A quick Internet check suggests that Numan’s music biography is far more extensive than I could ever have imagined. Perhaps my lack of interest in synthesizer music contributed to my ignorance. Maybe I was just embarrassed by the memory of my own school girl send ups of his songs. The part that got my attention was really nothing to do with his music. Numan married a member of his own fan club. (As it was on Wikipedia it must be true!) After a series of miscarriages and IVF attempts, the couple had their first child in 2003. They now have three daughters. Although it is not explained if IVF was ultimately responsible for Numan and wife becoming parents.

Certainly the varied list of celebrity and other well known people who have required intervention by In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) shows that fertility issues can affect people from all parts of our society. Wealth and fame will not assure pregnancy. The suspicion that these people have all somewhere along the line experienced the gut-wrenching doubt that parenthood may very well escape them makes celebrities seem like mere mortals afterall. Admitting to the intervention of medical science somehow makes them that much more human than others who clutter our newspapers and magazines with their glamorous existences.

I now have to admit to a newly found tolerance for the Gary Numan’s music -  in small doses!

Oh dear, I hate to say it, Lifeslurper but I have never heard of Gary Numan – I am pretty sure it is because I am so, so young! However, I did look him up on Wikipedia and this was the comment:

‘Numan’s signature style combines gloomy themes of depersonalisation and alienation accompanied by energetic synthesizer work’

Seriously, perhaps some more uplifting music might be the ticket!?!?

Okay yer young whipper-snapper! Despite the generation gap, Numan’s music has been preserved into our popular culture with appearences in both ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Family Guy’ to name just two references. Although there was a certain gloom to it, it was ultimately dance music. If I recall correctly, this was one (of quite a few!) artists that Molly Meldrum heralded as the future of music. Many my age won’t recall him. It is just my horribly long memory that won’t allow me to forget anything!

  • Ha, ha ha. Love what Jodie said!

On a serious note. I read the comment you left on my blog. Thank you. However, it’s about the first time I’ve read a comment and had instantaneous tears in my eyes. I can’t believe it that you got a phone call in the waiting room. My God, I wish you every success with your scan tomorrow. I’ll be waiting for your news.

Hmmm…..Melbagirl, Jodie is just being cheeky as she has received incredible follicle news….but that is her tale to tell, so I won’t pre-empt!

It is true, we did face a waiting room cancellation on Cycle #2. It was not fun. The preceeding five minutes had been some of the most exciting of my entire life. It was not to be. At this stage Cycle #4 has hit rock bottom.

Thank you for reading my comments! Much appreciated!

Leni! We must be the only two people in Australia to know of The Charlatans! I love them! Now if you could just explain Gary Numan to Jodie……
