Lifeslurper resides in a big brown land called Auuustralia. Her early years remain a mystery cloaked in a veil of depression. Age 42 Lifeslurper meets the vague but gorgeous Wobbles. “What took him so long to arrive?” She asks. They make their way together in the world just fine, but are not fine to make a baby – not without some outside help. Enter ART and 2008 the year of 4 IVF cycles & one lousy big fat negative. Lifeslurper is now 46 years old! Time for a baby is running out fast, so too is her sanity. Now it's 2010 - Lifeslurper and Wobbles are getting serious about this baby making business. Donor Egg Cycles are the way of the future and the future is NOW!

Baby or Highway

It was never supposed to happen like this.

Today as my state and country observes a National Day of Mourning for the victims of the fires three weeks ago, I find myself launching head-long into a different kind of grief.

Perhaps it is something about disaster that makes us turn our thoughts to new life? However, here thoughts of a baby predated the fires, along with all of a dealings with fertility clinics. The fires helped me to feel that various daily concerns were petty and unimportant. Yet there is one unshakable truth. Our quest for a baby is an important.

This week has brought a stark reminder of how fraught with difficulty the desire to have a baby is for the aged and fertility challenged.

Piggy in the IVF middle

Lifeslurper is having a bad day week month.

There are about eighteen incomplete posts half written for this blog, most of them not worth publishing. Why, that has never stopped me before, I hear you ask.

Turning to Dorothy the Dinosaur and Thomas the Tank Engine

Well it is now over a month since our latest IVF cycle not so much ended with a bang, but died with a whimper. Wobbles and I are still scratching our heads as to which way to go. We are officially on the clinic’s donor egg top 100 list, languishing somewhere near the end of that number. The marching on of time means we are compelled to keep trying with our own eggs, and hope we turn up a non-‘degenerate’ one or eventually are in receipt of a donated version.

Charting our way to a baby

Until my body manages to produce bar-coded mucus, Lifeslurper has not got much hope of understanding her own fertility – or lack thereof.

Is it too much to ask of medical science to create a special barcode reader for female mucus? A reader that is attached to its own measurement tool not unlike the DEFense readiness CONdition (DEFCON) used by the United States Armed Forces to describe activation and readiness levels wouldn’t go astray either! DEFCON 5 describes standard peacetime protocol, while DEFCON 1 represents expectation of actual imminent attack. RUMpy PUMpy requirement (RUMPUM) measurement would automatically tell us when it is time to “go for it” or “don’t bother,” unless of course there is a compelling interest or reason why you might actually want to, outside of this whole baby making routine stuff.
